Gum Treatment

  • What Is Plaque?

When bacteria on the tooth surface interact with certain components of saliva, a sticky, transparent bacterial film forms on the tooth surface. This is called plaque, the precursor to tartar and a leading cause of periodontal disease.

  • What Is Tartar?

Tartar forms when the bacterial film on the tooth surface becomes mineralized by saliva and other deposits over time, resulting in a hard mass made up of bacteria and minerals.
